40 years building things that work — in classrooms, boardrooms, nonprofits, and code.

Ron McDaniel

Most developers can write code. Fewer understand the business problem behind it. Almost none have operated at the levels where the stakes are real.

I've spent 40 years at the intersection of technology and business — not as a theorist, but as someone who built things, ran things, and was accountable for results.

Early in my career I was billable at $450/hour as a supply chain data analyst at Ernst & Young. Later, while leading a nonprofit turnaround, I secured a contract with the Department of Defense. I've served on a mental health board. I've built and operated multiple companies. Today I serve as president of two school boards overseeing five schools, 1,200 students, and $6 million in assets.

At Kent State University I was the sole developer — working with a group of student interns — on a business system that made Residence Services the only profitable department on campus. One developer. Real results. That's been the pattern throughout my career.

I've been a professor in the United States and in Mexico. I've spoken from large stages across the country on marketing and business strategy. I'm an author. I homeschooled my daughter — by design — and she enrolled in college full time at 14.

AI didn't make me a developer. It made a seasoned developer dramatically faster. When you engage with me, you're not getting a coder who learned to use AI tools. You're getting 40 years of business, data, and technology experience that now executes at a speed that wasn't possible two years ago.

The planning matters as much as the building. Every engagement begins with analysis — feasibility, risk, scope, architecture. You'll know exactly what you're getting before a line of code is written. If the scope or cost doesn't work for you after that, you walk away with clarity you didn't have before. That has value on its own.

I take on a limited number of engagements. If you have a real problem and need someone who has seen real problems before — let's talk.
